Default "Endgame" Content?

I've read that Factions really rushes you to 20 (and have experienced that ... I'm about 700xp from 12 with what seems like hardly any played time).
What I’m wondering about is PVE “Endgame.”
I know that GW is a PVP centric game and that is totally cool with me. However, I enjoy PVE too and would like to know if there is a lot of content to keep me busy for a bit once I’ve hit 20.
Are there a lot of missions?
Are there different zones to explore?
Is upgrading your gear to top tier a long process (but with several options in between, and not just crappy armor -> long quest -> best armor)?
Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Well I'll try to summarize it a bit for you

Prophecies and Factions, the missions:

- Prophecies has 25 missions with a bonus. Factions has 13 missions with different rewards.
- Prophecies has more explorable area's where no-one actualy came when he followed the storyline --> more exploring feeling. Factions uses Mission-area's also as explorable after the mission is done... which adds a small extra to the mission-area but can't meet the explorable feeling of prophecies.

After you completed the missions/game:
- You can collect titels that count for both Prophecies and Factions. They require a lot of time to complete and one can be "proud" of achieving one. It's bassicly the way for PvE players to show they have some "skill". Titles like capturing elite skills, opening chests to become treasure hunter, completing all missions with master reward/bonus or uncovering the complete worldmap to become the master explorer.
- In Prophecies/Factions you have the Underworld and Fissure of Woe after you completed the missions and are borred to do them again. It's a more "diffucult" (depends on players experience) area and requires a more strategic approach of the team.
- In Faactions you could participate in the Battle for Luxons VS Kurzicks. If your Alliance is good enough in "farming faction" (either by doing quests or competitive missions) you might be able to capture the main city. If you have it you can play the "Elite Mission" which can be very tough. (depends on team).
- For the rest you can do a lot of quests in Prophecies and Factions that will give you experience bonus and in area's like Sorrow's Furnace you can get green drops. Also in Factions there are random green drops from bosses but they are all over the worldmap and not in one area.
- In Prophecies you can do the Titan Quests after you finished the game. These are (depends on own experience) more difficult quests that give a lot of experiencepoints.

Weapons and Gear:
- You can collect rare items in the Underworld and Fissure of Woe to buy "Fissure Armor". Which is the most expensive armor in the game. I believe it would cost more than 1.000.000gold if you buy all the materials.
- There are also a lot of 15K armors in the game, in Prophecies and Factions. Materials needed makes it even cost more or less.
- All these armors have the same defense rate/bonusses... it's just the looks that makes them different.
- You can "farm" for green weapons in both worlds or make your own weapon. You can find all kind of different "skins" (= look) in Prophecies and Cantha. The more expensive once are in the Underworld, Fissure of Woe, Elite Missions. You can either go there and be lucky to find a good one or a skin and make your perfect weapon... or buy it for a lot of gold.
- Will it be a long process? The Fissure armor for sure, and finding a perfect weapon that is perfect for your character is also rare I think... so yes, a lot of time

I hope I didn't forget too much and it answers your question

Thanks, that actually helps a lot.

If I purchase Prophecies (I started with Factions b/c a friend has GW and urged me to try it...but he is currently playing Factions) can I go to that island and do everything over there too?

Yes most of the content from Prophecies will be availible to you once you purchase GW:P. The only thing that won't be is the "Pre-Sear" world...which isn't a big deal, it's really just a tutorial.

Yep, you can't access to the Pre-Searing Ascalon but you can go to the Post-Searing Ascalon anyway if your buy Prophecies. Anyway, you start at the middle of the map (In the city of Lion Arch)when you arrive at Tyria.

Awesome, thanks for all the help.

Sounds like all of the collecting will take me some fun time ... And then I can pick up Prophecies and explore that as well.

In Factions, It's quite possible to achieve level 20 in under 6 hours playing time - my current record is 6 hours, 5 minutes with a N/Mo bloodspiker.
